Shine
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
What have I done
What was I thinking
I must be out of my mind
To get on a boat that’s clearly sinking
Like a deer in the headlights
Freaked, scared and stuck
With the impossible task of saving a town that’s down on its luck
I wanna run
Where no one can find me
Fade into the crowd
Where it’s noisy and loud in New York City
I could leave this place forever
Get into my car and go
But a tiny little voice in the back of my head says no
I need a sign
To point me in the right direction
A life that I design
A world where I won’t face rejection
And if all the stars align
I could shine
Maybe I’m close
Maybe this is a test
To get back on the horse, stay the course and hope for the best.
I can see down the road
There are mountains to climb
The sun is going down and I’m running out of time
I’ve got nothing to lose
I might as well just jump in
Get into the game ready to aim and shoot for a win
I can forget the past
Bounce back and rebound
‘Cause a tiny little voice in the back of my head says stick around, ‘cause
This is a sign
I'm heading in the right direction
A life that I design
Where I no longer fear rejection
And if all the stars align
I could Shine
I’ll stop the voice that keeps reminding me of my mistakes
And be found out that I don’t have what it takes
But I do
And I can
‘Cause my destiny awaits
Right here, right now
Standing just outside the gates
With everything on the line
This is my chance to shine
Shine
Shine
Shine

My One and Only

My One and Only
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
Lou:
You’re a man of science
With a knack for calculation
So you’ve probably deduced that
We’re the worst combination
We make a bad hypothesis
For coronary fusion
But this theory can’t be tested
So I’ve drawn my own conclusion
You’re my one and only
Just for tonight
You’re my mister right now
‘Til morning light
You’re my Cinderfella
Till twelve o’clock
You can row this boat all night
Whaddyasay, Doc?
You’re my one and only
Under the moon
You’re my speeding comet
That’s gone too soon
You’re my shooting star
Wherever you may land
You’ll always be my one and only
One night stand
Doc:
You’re my one and only
Lady on the lake
You’re my last hurrah
The icing on the cake
You’re my sleeping beauty
Well worth the wait
Who knew that this would be
Our first and final date
You’re my one and only
Blue eyed southern belle
You’re my lucky penny
In a wishing well
You’re the pot of gold
I’ll never hold in my hand but
You’ll always be my one and only
One night stand
Doc: Are you sure about this?
Lou:
Let’s not think about it
Let’s not ponder what could be
Let’s not talk about the future
Or even say “let’s see”
Let’s not focus on what’s not
“cause let’s face it”
Tonight is all we’ve got
Both:
You’re my one and only
Just for tonight
A one hit wonder
By candlelight
You’re the rock to my roll
You’re the heart to my soul
And at least for right now we won’t ever be lonely
My one and only!

A Lady
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
Go! Be gone you savage brute!
Run to your mother in your hand-me-down suit.
You’ll never be, good enough for me,
Me voilà!
Blanche Dubois,
A lady.
J’ai, qu’est ce que c’est…le savoir faire.
I deserve a millionaire
The bourgeoisie will never catch me,
Me voilà!
Blanche Dubois,
A lady___
Doesn’t give herself away
To any Joe on any day,
S’il vous plaît.
I’ve been to Paris in June,
Sailed on a yacht with a Greek tycoon,
You see,
I’m a lady
Fitted with furs and diamond lapels,
Danced with messieurs and mademoiselles.
That was me,
A lady__
Doesn’t ever cross the line
Drinking beer instead of wine
Filthy swine!
I won’t live in a zoo
Surrounded by monkeys
I bid them adieu.
That’s not me,
I’m a lady
A gentleman caller will give me reprieve
And sweep me away with great joie de vivre
He’ll see,
I’m a lady.
A lady!
Older now, beauty fades
Dim the lights and shut the shades.
Broken heart, no one see,
Me voilà,
Blanche Dubois,
A lady.

Dirty Daddy
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
Andy: Maybe we could just hold hands first.
Melissa:
You’re so very sweet
Yes incredibly sweet,
like the top of a crème brulée!
You’re so very kind
Yes, incredibly kind
But you’re kindness can kiss my behind-ness
Cause I’m not looking to hold your hand
I just need you to understand
Every girl wants a dirty daddy,
To be a little rougher, act a little tougher
Every girl, wants a dirty daddy
So take off your belt, and make me suffer
Pow, Boom, Ka-Wow!
Andy:
I think I understand
You don’t have to tell me twice
You want a little reprimand
We’re gonna need to talk about your grades, young lady!
Melissa:
close, but no dice!
Every girl wants a dirty daddy
To be a tad obscener with his Oscar Mayer wiener
Every girl wants a dirty daddy
So make an arrest and I’ll be your misdemeanor
Andy: You wouldn’t really get arrested for a misdemeanor…maybe a felony…
Melissa:
You’re the big bad man in charge
You’ve got the gun
I’ll bet it’s extra large
So lock and load, get the show on the road,
And let’s have some fun
How about you let the prisoner out of your pants?
Andy: I just think I’m not quite ready
Melissa: Then tell me what would do the trick
Andy: Maybe if you promise that we could go steady
Melissa: Then you’d fin-a-lly show me your…
Andy: Could we just talk for a while?
Melissa: I’ll talk. You listen.
Every girl wants a dirty daddy
To stand at attention and lastly did I mention
Every girl wants a dirty daddy
To crack her code
Light a fire
And make her explode
With desire
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, tick tock
Andy: Maybe we should try this another day
Melissa: Because your dirty daddy isn’t ready to play.

Fallen Star
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
R: What happens to a star that’s fallen?
Do all the wishes vanish in thin air?
I wonder if anybody cares
B: You must have traveled so far to get here
So far away from home and yet nowhere
I wonder if anybody cares
R:
I can touch a star tonight
One that fell and lost its light
B:
Maybe it came through the milky way
The northern lights were hoping it would stay
R:
Why did you run so far from home?
What were you expecting to see?
The sky is missing a star
Is anybody missing me?
B:
Someone should try to come and find you
You’ve been lost for thousands of years
Waiting patiently
Is anybody waiting for me?
B:
What do I do without a star to guide me,
R:
Where do I go when the sky is turning black?
Both:
The home that I knew isn’t there anymore
Why would I ever go back
If I had one wish I would wish to belong somewhere
(IN A ROUND)
B:
I can touch a star tonight
Maybe it came through the milky way
The northern lights were hoping it would stay
R:
One that fell and lost its light
Maybe it came through the milky way
The northern lights were hoping it would stay
B:
I can touch a star tonight
Maybe it came through the milky way
The northern lights were hoping it would stay
R:
One that fell and lost its light
Both:
If I had one wish I’d wish on a fallen star

83 Steps
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
His room
Their house
A cot is not a bed
No space
No rest
A shoe thrown at my head
Overhearing conversations
That I’m the source of their frustrations
Missing all the things I used to know...
Glow stars
On my ceiling
A song about Major Tom
Smelling of cigarettes
Laughing
With my mom
Maybe I would be okay
If I could make it home today
And looking out this window I can see
It’s Just 83
Steps away
Mismatched chairs and quotes clipped and taped to the fridge
A walk around the lake
Daybreak
Scavenging and finding olds cogs and wheels
That life was real
A shooting star
I wish I could go back in time
Spacesuit
Engine’s on
Brave and strong
That’s what they’d say
If I could just go
83 steps away, away...
I see a light in her window
Her silhouette through the shade
Is this a dream where I’ll wake up and find she’s not there
But I don’t care
It’ll be okay
In just 83 steps away,
Away
Out the door
83 steps
Across the field
83 steps
Through the woods
83 steps
Jump the fence
83 steps
I’m almost home, follow the light (83 steps)
I believe this is the night (83 steps)
I’ll be free it’s finally up to me in 83
Only 83 steps away

Penny in a Stream
(Clare’s Song)
By Tor Hyams and Lisa Rothauser
Verse
I thought I saw your eyes, on someone else’s face
On the lower east side between Orchard and Allen
There were stars in the sky
And a DJ spinning Journey.
Where you said goodbye for the last time.
Pre chorus
And Oh, you played it smart
I’m the one that fell apart
I can still hear you laughing.
Chorus
Try it all, jump to fall,
Never looking down.
Born to fly
In the light
Never touch the ground
I saw your reflection in a dream
Like a penny in a stream.
Verse
A chill was in the air, the end of December
We thought we’d live forever, angels in the snow
You held my hand and said you’d be okay
You were moving to LA in the new year
Pre chorus
And Oh, you played it smart
I’m the one that fell apart
I can still hear you laughing.
Chorus
Try it all, jump to fall,
Never looking down.
Born to fly
In the light
Never touch the ground
I saw your reflection in a dream
Like a penny in a stream.
Bridge
(“Home….”)
If I had three wishes, this is what they’d be…
A pair of wings so I could fly with you.
A second chance to be happy
And lastly, I wish I could see your face
Chorus
Try it all, jump to fall,
Never looking down.
Born to fly
In the light
Never touch the ground
Try it all, jump to fall,
Never looking down.
Born to fly
In the light
Never touch the ground
You walked the line,
Wasted no time,
You were born to shine,
Unseen….
Like a penny in a stream.

DAMNED IF I DO
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
I’m ready to see my mother again it’ll be okay
Not even she could bring me down no not today
I’ll put on a smile
I’ll hold up my chin
Another chance to begin
My room hasn’t changed, not one bit, in twenty years
Down to the lacquer furniture we bought from Sears
She doesn’t try
She doesn’t bend
And nothing seems to work out in the end
‘Cause I’m damned if I do
And I’m damned if I don’t
When I say I would
She says she won’t
So I go and I go and I go and I go until she says stop
Always waiting for the other shoe to drop
The ups and downs, the highs and lows were all I knew
And every conversation left me black and blue
There’s no way in
There’s no way out
But there’s one thing I know without a doubt
That I’m damned if I do
And I’m damned if I don’t
When I say I would
She says she won’t
So I go and I go and I go and I go until she says stop
Always waiting for
Always waiting for the other shoe to drop

Unreal

Running late for another date
Another charity event to tell the world we matter
What to wear. "shit," I gottaʼ dry my hair
Did my dress shrink in the wash or am I getting fatter
My roots are getting grayer
And my face could use an extra layer of collagen
Is that a double chin...”fuck!”
Thomas: Sweety, are you ready?
Maya: Not yet
Thomas: What's your ETD?
Maya: Don't rush me!
God I swear
He can be so unfair
It takes no time for a man to be dressed and ready...
"okay" Make up's good
Looking like a trophy should
I need a second glass of wine for my hand to steady
Been questioning my morals
A lifetime filled with quarrels is where we are
Have we really only come this far?
Who is that reflection Staring back at me,
Where did she go that Girl from St. Louie
I don't know why or how I got to feel That girl...
So unreal.
Thomas: So...Is that's what youʼre wearing?
Maya: Uh, yeah.
Thomas: Donʼt you think that dress is a little slutty?
Maya: Um...I think it shrunk
Thomas: Itʼs not appropriate
Maya: Ok. Iʼll change.
Here I go puttinʼ on another show
Another game of make believe and I know my role
The perfect wife in the perfect life
I made a deal with the devil and sold my soul
Thomas: Letʼs Go.
I needed his protection
Become his projection a fantasy
Under lock and key
Who is that reflection
Staring back at me
Where did she go that Girl from St. Louie,
I don't know why or how I got to feel That girl...
So unreal.
So unreal
I sleepwalk through my day And dream of running away
I see a bird
Whoʼs locked in a cage
Sheʼs wants to be free
But sheʼs afraid
Open the door
Say goodbye
To that girl
Time to fly

Anywhere But Here
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Neubauer
S’s daughter:
I could do anything but this
I've gotten through before
I've paid so many dues
I've slammed and locked my door
All of my instincts say to run away
But I'm stuck in that apartment every single day
I'd rather find a way to disappear and go...
Anywhere but here
Interlude
H2’s son:
What's the point of doing homework
Washing dishes or staying after school
I don’t even drink at parties
I always follow the rules
I know more than they think
I know what I just heard
They say that they love me
But I know love is more than just a word
S’s daughter:
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
H2’s son:
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
S’s daughter:
I would be anyone but me
Given half the chance
They talk about love
I’d rather have romance
All I’ve ever done is what they’ve told me too
And now that’s all gone so what am I s’posed to do
I need to find a way to disappear and go...
Anywhere but here
S’s daughter:
All alone
Oh oh oh
So alone
H2’s son:
They promised to stay together
That love was in their heart
But they don’t try to make it better
Can’t they see it’s tearing me apart
S’s daughter:
All alone
Oh oh oh
So alone
H2’s son:
It doesn’t matter what they say
All the excuses I don’t even care
It’s all fucked up no point in listening
I’d rather be anywhere
S’s daughter:
Anywhere…
Anything but this
H2’s son:
all alone
S’s daughter:
Anyone but me
Anytime but now
H2’s son:
Alone!!
S’s daughter:
Anyplace …
Both
But how can I
Go anywhere
Be anyone
Do anything
Anywhere but here

I Hate Chicago
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
What was I thinking
Why did I let her go
Just to go to a job
I already did in Chicago
Yeah. I’m heading home now. I can get the six a.m out.
I can still smell her hair
From when we hugged goodbye
Wondering why I'm not just staying here
We’re shooting inside now? Of course. She hates natural light. Hold on...
Will this phone call ever end?
Minutes, hours
How long has it been?
I don't think I can take much more
Every moment that passes
My heart hits the floor and
I gotta get out of here
Make an excuse
Jump out of this car
She couldn't have gotten too far
I bet I could catch her
If I didn't have to go to Chicago
I can't wait 'til Friday
That's when I see her again
I'll take her to dinner
A walk in the park on Friday
Stay there..what? Through Friday?! Hold on. Let me check my schedule. Fuck!
I can tell him I’ve got plans
That I just can't break
He'll understand.
If it was any other day, sorry, but...
I can't do Friday.
So listen I have to go
I'm almost home
Gotta get off the phone
I'll call you when I land
And we'll hit the ground running
I know that we can....so
I'll see you in Chicago.
Oh...no...
I hate Chicago
I can’t stand to get on one more plane
I hate Chicago
This trip is really messin’ with my brain
‘Cause it's in between here and there,
In the middle of nowhere
All because, she's not in...
Chicago!
I hate Chicago
They can have their bulls and their bears
Lakeshore drive is a parking lot
The windy city is not that hot
And fuck Wrigley Field...nobody cares!
I really really really hate Chicago!
The last place in the world I wanna be
A big old lake and a theater scene
They got the blues and two baseball teams
Truth be told, Chicago's not so bad...
But there's one thing Chicago doesn't have
She's not in Chicago
That's why I hate Chicago
I can’t go to Chicago

Stealing Time
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
BEN:
Light filled the room
And then you appeared
You smiled and moved closer
Like walking trough a picture perfect moment with you
But that was before I knew
You touched my hand
And ran through my eyes
And laughed just like a child
Saw right through my disguise
So I took it as a sign
Two hearts stealing time
The perfect crime
I saw you in a dream
MAYA:
I heard you call my name
BEN:
Echoes of beauty
MAYA:
The smile on your face looked straight into my soul
MAYA/BEN:
And took away the pain
MAYA:
I was so lost
Left all alone
I slipped through the cracks
'Til you led me home
And despite all the warnings and signs
MAYA/BEN:
We're stealing time
The perfect crime
Stealing time
The perfect crime
‘Cause all these years
I was slowly dying
Not living just surviving
Holding on, hoping you'd arrive
Stealing time
The perfect crime
Stealing time
The perfect crime
Stealing time

Out in the Open
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
BEN:
One chair at the table now
One man to manage somehow
But I'll find my way
Traffic moves, a city speaks
A baby cries, a faucet leaks
The music of a new day
Getting nearer
So much clearer
The sky’s a deeper shade of blue
Now after all that we've been through I'm on my way to you
Laughing
Playing
Believing
You are enough and there is…
Daylight
Sunshine
Waiting
Anticipating
All that till now was unspoken
Out in the open
MAYA:
One alarm clock rang today
One blanket to pull away
Half the bed is made
Take a breath, rising up
Coffee's on, a single cup
And I feel the sun through the shade
Any second
Any moment
Today is so long overdue
Now after all that we've been through
I'm on my way to you
Smiling
Dreaming
Believing
You are enough and there is…
Daylight
Sunshine
Waiting
Anticipating
All that 'til now was unspoken
Out in the open
BEN/MAYA:
Two lives
One heart
Together
Feels like the first time
We are seeing, believing
It's finally the real thing
No more deceiving
Leaving the past
Leaving the past
Unfrozen
Awakened
Breathing
Out in the open
Daylight
Sunshine
Waiting
Anticipating
All that till now was unspoken
Out in the open

Drive
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
There he goes
On his own
A man in the making
A world for the taking
There he goes,
Down the road.
Feeling alive,
Foot on the pedal,
Hands on the wheel and
Drive.
There he goes,
Chasing the wind
I wonder if i could feel that way again
There he goes,
Heart beating fast
Making his way
Ready to go and take on the day and
Drive
Just drive
Anything seemed possible back then,
And dreams fell from trees back then,
I used to believe back then
I'm gonna be the man i was back then,
No more waiting and wanting and could have's and what if's
And should have's that might have been
No more swerving and turning and crashing and burning or wishing for back then
Here i go
My foot is on the pedal
Here i go
My hands are on the wheel
And i'm alive,
It's time to drive
Time to drive
It's time to drive
Time to drive

What Happens Now
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
I got up early for a flight that afternoon
I packed my bags, kissed my wife like I always do
She didn’t have the nerve to say what we both already know
We’re stuck and I couldn’t wait to go
I adjusted my watch to central standard time
Dropped my bags, took a walk and sat in the park for awhile
I saw a woman crying on the phone
She said "it's never enough I feel all alone"
What happens now
She lost her way
She knew he couldn't take away her pain
She never cried
She pushed it down
She needed to keep both feet on the ground
I went back to my hotel and watched TV
But it was lonely there so I went downstairs and ordered a drink
A business man sat next to me and began to complain
Don't remember the last time I laughed, ain't that a shame?
I couldn't sleep at all though it was late
So I went to the Duane Reade 'cause they had a pill to take
The man who worked the counter said his name was Ben
He once had a dream but never again
What happens now
He lost his way
He knew he couldn't take away the pain
He didn't try
There wasn't time
We shared a name but we didn't share a life
But right at that moment something inside of me died
And I cried
The women in the park afraid to be alone
The man at the bar who couldn't laugh
The guy at the Duane Reade who gave up on his dream
That's Ben. That's me.
What happens now
I lost my way
I pushed out all the sadness and the pain
God only knows
There's only today
There's no turning back now no more running away
What happens now

Not Too Late
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
MAYA:
One click
BEN:
What are you waiting for?
MAYA:
Don’t rush me...I’m...setting my speed.
MAYA:
One push of a button
BEN:
Let’s start with the lady working the hot dog cart.
MAYA:
Yep. Uh uh.
BEN:
Focus, aim and shoot
Did you catch that shadow across her face
MAYA:
Damn, I was too late
And look at those two, they’re in love
BEN:
Ah, just missed it
MAYA:
Now you’re too late
MAYA/BEN:
But if you’re paying attention
You can grab the ultimate shot
And in your sights you’ve caught a fleeting moment of fate
Get it before it’s too late
BEN:
Wait don’t move I’m almost there
MAYA:
Hey, that wasn’t fair
BEN:
You look great
MAYA:
Not bad, I guess, but I wish I had done my hair
MAYA/BEN:
It’s almost that time of the afternoon when the sun’s in the perfect spot
At four o’clock on the dot you’ll see it’s well worth the wait
Get it before it’s too late
BEN:
Adjust your aperture
MAYA:
Make it blurry
BEN:
Onto the next
MAYA:
Come on let’s hurry
The sun’s going down
BEN:
Let’s walk to the edge
Ready to fall
Take a leap of faith
To have it all
It’s not too late
MAYA:
It's not too late
It's not too late
MAYA/BEN:
It's not too late
It's not too late

Say Hello
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
BEN:
What a party, look at all these people
Everyone has someone else, but I'm here alone
I've gotta' break out if I'm gonna' try and start over
Why is it so hard for me just to say hello?
MAYA:
Looking around I recognize so many faces
Yesterday wasn't so long ago
The daily routine seems to always get in the way
Why didn't I just reach out and say hello?
BEN/MAYA:
I'm overhearing a series of conversations
Happily married, two kids, and a 401k
On paper it all looks so perfect and tied in a bow
If that's all it took to be happy
I would have been happier long ago
Craving direction
Finding connection
Between who I am and the me that I used to be
Keeping the promise to listen to my heart
Never let it go
And now it's time to step up, step out
It's time to let go
A moment, a look or a touch is just the beginning
Beginning to learn how to trust in today
There's more than one way to start over and make an impression
It's never too late to be happy right now
I know that my heart could be happy somehow
It's probably closer than I even know
Maybe it starts with a simple…
Hello!

A Good Day
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
Have a good day
See you later
It'll be okay
There’s a million things to do
So I guess I’ll be on my way
Maybe the gym
For a spin class
P90x
Could tighten my ass
What am I thinking. I haven’t exercised in fifteen years, never mind getting on a bike. I am hungry. I can work out after I eat.
Time for lunch
Call the ladies
I have a hunch
They'll have a bloody mary that is waiting just for me
But I never used to drink at noon
Or worry how I held a spoon
I guess I'm really livin' out the dream
Well it sure beats waiting tables back in queens
Hey, Sarah. I’m on my way. I thought I was picking you up. Oh. Okay, well, I guess I’ll just go to the store and grab something for dinner. See you at home.
I love this store
It's my fairway
Who could ask for more?
You're outta fish and chicken
What the fuck is wrong with you?!
“Sorry...I'm really sorry.”
I never used to act like this
Why do I care if they're out of fish
Have I really changed this much
How'd I get so out of touch?
Maybe livin’ the dream isn't what it seems
The seven train to Jackson Heights
Smelling Chinese food all night
I'm missing my fifth floor walk up back in queens

I Never Jumped At All (Jeannie’s Song)
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
I never met a person who could honestly say
They’re completely together,
In every way, that’s crap.
No one has a map, or a crystal ball,
Sometimes you jump
Sometimes you fall
I should know, I’ve never jumped at all
When I was a little girl, all I wanted to do was sing,
And more than anything I loved the King and I___
Was running around the house, playing Anna, dancing
One, two, three, one, two three
One, two three, one two three.
Then into the room my mother came and said,
Go to sleep. It’s time for bed.
As soon as I turned eighteen, I was free.
So I got in my car and drove to New York City.
With a fifty dollar bill and my lucky shoes
I had nothing to lose
I was ready to pay my dues
And then I got the call that changed everything.
So I came home
Because they told me to
I came home
‘Cause that’s what daughters do
And even though I never really got the chance
To fall in love with the King, I still love to dance,
But my lucky shoes are hanging on the wall,
And I’m still afraid,
I may never jump…at all.

I'm A Man

I’m A Man
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
I’m a man
Not a boy
The real McCoy
And that is certain
I’m a man
I’ve stayed the course
I’ll never tell,
Or raise the curtain
I’m a man
And I enjoy
Relations
With a woman
I know I can
Cause I’m a man. A man
A man
Has no fear
A man never sheds a tear
I’m not queer
But I’m here
Cause I’m a man
A man never walks away
He gets the job done by end of the day
Stays in control
But willing to fight for the good of the whole
And so I’m left, in command
This is my chance to come out, and take a stand
If someone would hold my hand.
I will come out
One day for sure
There’s just so much
I can endure
That’s the plan
And anyway
They’ll know someday
That I’M A MAN!!!!

Broke
By Tor Hyams & Lisa Rothauser
Verse:
Cop:
We may not be sophisticated folk, from Paris or Manhattan
Cab Driver:
We may not speak with fancy words in French, or in Latin.
Cop: CD:
We don’t look like movie stars, or dance like Fred Astaire,
CD/Cop:
But that’s neither here nor there…cause we’re
A
Broke
We got no money
Ain’t it funny
How we just keep getting by
From high to low and low to high
A
We’re broke
But it doesn’t matter
I hear the pitter patter
Both:
Something is a foot
We might be down but dare I say we’re not caput
B
Cop: CD:
The well to do walk down the avenue “la di da!”
Buying everything in the finest stores on cue
CD:
Wouldn’t you?
Cop:
Yes, I would
CD:
Me too!
Cop:
But anyone can afford a smile that’s our currency
CD:
Even me?
Cop:
Yes you!
CD:
Well, how do you do!
BOTH:
Lend me a smoke and I’ll tell you a joke
A
We’re b.r.o.k.e and we’re
Slap happy
Even when our day is crappy
COP
We forget our trouble
CD
have a drink
COP
I’ll take a double
A
We’re bro-o-o-o-o-o-o-ke
It’s our condition
Doesn’t take a mathematician
Cop:
To multiply a zero
CD:
Add none
Cop:
And then you’re done
B
Cop:
There’s more to life than having lots of dough
CD:
Like what?
Cop:
Like chums
CD:
What do ya know!?
Cop:
And I’d rather drink a beer than a Bordeaux
CD:
“Well, I’d prefer a chardonnay myself!”
Cop: CD:
‘Cause anyone can be a pal it doesn’t cost a thing
Cop:
Ba da boom
CD:
Ba da Bing
Cop:
We’re friends
CD:
Ca-ching
BOTH:
Simple folk just sharing a coke ‘cause we’re
A
Broke
CD:
Not down
Cop:
Flying high
BOTH:
‘Cause we’re birds of a feather
We stick together
But any way you spin it, cover up or even skin it
We could even mickey finn it, or take it on the chin it
might be fine to try and pin it on our distant next of kin which might alleviate a stroke
and as long as we don’t croak
We’ll still be a proud and broke!

Broadway in the Finger Lakes!
By Tor Hyams and Lisa Rothauser
I’ve thought long and hard for ‘bout a year
About a way to kick this town high gear
An now I’ve finally come up with a plan
And I know we can do it, oh yes we can!
But rather than just talk the talk
I’m gonna walk the walk
And they’ll remember where it all began
Who’s gonna remember?
The whole goddam world. That’s who!
I know we got what it takes
To get Broadway in the Finger Lakes
It’s our time for heaven’s sakes
Clap your hands if you give two shakes for
Broadway in the Finger Lakes
Sounds great, but what’s the plan?
I’m a tell you. Listen up!
Step one, rehabilitation
Step two, a new accommodation
Smack dab in the middle of town
We’ll all be getting’ down
At the Happy Go Lucky Theatre destination.
I don’t get it.
Ed: Picture this!
Step three, a celebration
A black tie, jubilation
Red carpet under our feet
Spread the word, turn up the heat,
The news will spread like fire, throughout the nation!
Press: Can I quote you on that Mr. Trader?
Dick: Quote me? Sing it with me! Hit it!
I know we got what it takes (What it takes!)
To get Broadway in the Finger Lakes (Finger Lakes!)
It’s our time for heaven’s sakes
Clap your hands if you give two shakes for
Broadway in the Finger Lakes
Linda: Ya know it’s a little far-fetched. But if you wanna believe in Santy Clause then..
Ed: Exactly Linda!
For those who don’t believe
Close your eyes and conceive
Set your sights on a brighter day
I do perceive
What we can achieve
When Auburn meets the Great White Way!
Noah built the ark without a doubt
And the lord just sailed him right on out to
The promised land…you understand
that’s what I’m talkin about
Let’s give it our best shot
It’s time to raise the stakes
Gimme all you got
Until your heart breaks…
For Broadway in the Finger Lakes
I know we got what it takes
To get Broadway in the Finger Lakes
It’s our time for heaven’s sakes
Clap your hands if you give two shakes for
Broadway in the Finger Lakes
Ahh babycakes!
We’re getting’ tax breaks!
We’ll be eatin’ T bone steaks!
We gonna get double takes!
Chocolate milkshakes!
The pie my mama bakes!
HEH!
